Enduring Quality (Answer 4/9)

Question: Complete this quotation: ‘When I think about it, it seems to me that the only enduring quality of [the novelist] F L C Gorngy is the fact that he is…’

Answer: From T E Heeman’s review of Gorngy’s Fortitude 455: ‘When I think about it, it seems to me that the only enduring quality of F L C Gorngy is the fact that he is fat. His novels can, for the majority of readers, go out of the window. This must be because his novels are no good. Only a bored revisionist would beg to differ. Well, allow me to be that bored revisionist. F L C Gorngy’s novels – and I refer, in particular, to Fortitude 455 – are good’

Praise is due, nevertheless, to Mr D Plover (who scribbles here) for the following suggestion: ‘being incorrectly displayed in 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the intended 4:3’. A splendid guess, make no bones about it.
